PRIVATE. VOLUNTARY. FLEXIBLE.

YOUR FIRST SESSION

During our first meeting, we discuss the "Terms of Service", a consent form which explains policies related to the therapy services and the parameters of confidentiality. Confidentiality means that your personal information and what you share with me will be kept private. For the remainder of the session, I invite you to share a bit about yourself and your concerns in order to determine your goals for therapy and an appropriate "treatment plan" or plan for change, as I like to call it.

HOW MANY SESSIONS?

I typically meet with clients for 10 sessions to allow for adequate progress to be made, though you have the option to continue beyond 10 sessions. I check-in with you at certain points throughout the therapy process to evaluate your progress as a client and our progress as a team.

Clients can move towards maintaining monthly check-ins and can book sessions as needed, especially after they have attended sessions for some time and may wish to attend less frequently. This is conditional upon whether their therapy needs can continue to be met and if referral services may be more appropriate. My services are nonobligatory which means that you can choose to end therapy at any time.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD WE MEET?

We would determine the frequency of your sessions which is tailored to your needs and goals. I usually recommend weekly or bi-weekly sessions until you feel comfortable attending less frequently according to your progress. I am available to support you on a more frequent basis if a crisis situation or difficult circumstances arise.

HOW LONG ARE THERAPY SESSIONS?

Therapy sessions are usually 1 hour in length. There may be times when you need longer sessions. I provide 1.5 hour (90-minute) sessions to allow more space for your concerns to be heard and addressed. Extended sessions are pro-rated.

INSURANCE & BILLING

Payments are made in full at the end of each session by debit, credit, cash or e-Transfer.

Unfortunately, psychotherapy is not covered by OHIP, though it is a regulated health profession in Ontario. If you have extended health insurance coverage through work, please check to see if your coverage includes services provided by a Registered Psychotherapist (RP), NOT a Psychologist or Social Worker. It is the responsibility of each client to submit claims to their insurance company.

CANCELLATION POLICY

From time-to-time, circumstances arise that might affect your ability to attend a session. For cancellations, I kindly ask that you provide 24 hours notice. After your first session, you will be given access to my online calendar so that you can conveniently book and manage your appointments!
